Our First Anniversary

Jordan and I recently celebrated our first wedding anniversary. Our inaugural year together as a married couple has been nothing short of amazing. We’ve really found our groove and appreciate our relationship now more than ever. In order to celebrate we decided to take a weekend upstate in The Catskills, dog in tow.

Personally, I love a good hotel and usually really dislike staying in other people’s space. I feel like a vacation should be relaxing without having to worry about overstaying your welcome, or when the sheets were last laundered. However, hotel options upstate are lacking and after a major scrub of Airbnb (pastel carpeting and flowered comforters immediately excluded) the perfect mid-century modern oasis in the mountains was found. The Martin House was clean, welcoming and had the most amazing grounds, including a firepit surrounded by fire engine red adirondack chairs. The hosts even left us a chilled bottle of prosecco to celebrate. Cheers to the best first year and clean linens!

Jordan and I spent the weekend exploring the surrounding small towns and watching Hank play in the yard. The days were fairly lazy but also felt full despite the limited activity. We got lucky at a small  antique store in Saugerties and picked up an underpriced piece of art and a vintage Hermes accordion scarf. Nothing gets me more excited than a deal, but two scores in one store had me bursting at the seams. Jordan was an expert negotiator and we left with both items for far less than originally priced. I admittedly have the worst bargaining skills and would likely have ended up paying double.

To celebrate our anniversary, Jordan made a dinner reservation at Cucina in Woodstock, NY. The restaurant serves Italian food with an upscale yet laid back vibe. We ate on the porch after having dirty martinis at the bar with the locals. The next morning we drove to Tannersville, NY and came across Twin Peaks Coffee and Donuts. This small donut shop is attached to an antique store in the middle of town. We were greeted by one of the owners and had fresh hand-dipped donuts that were made to order. Jordan even took home a bag of their coffee beans to brew over the upcoming weeks since apparently their blend was on point.

Nothing could beat this unbelievable, chill, beautiful weekend with my family. We decided to try to make The Catskills a more regular part of our lives and even started browsing the local real estate listings. As if my Streeteasy obsession wasn’t bad enough, I now have an entirely new real estate section to obsess over.
